I'm Coming Back

My Air Force journey, specifically my PT testing, encountered a significant obstacle, but I'm choosing to view it as a stepping stone for growth. Throughout my life, I have found myself having to “bounce back” from things that could have taken me down. This is just a chance for another “come-back” story!
The accident occurred just a week before last year's March Drill, where I was on the cusp of crushing my PT Test, and as expected, I was fully prepared, having nailed 40 pushups and situps, and clocked in the 1 1/2 miles well within my target time. In fact, I had maxed out on the last test with perfect scores and a blistering 12:40 run time, proving to myself, again, that I have what it takes to excel.
Now, while I'm currently unable to attempt a situp, I've discovered the plank as a powerful and non-painful alternative event to the situp. Today, I proudly held a plank for 1 minute and managed 5 regular pushups, a humble start that marks the beginning of a new chapter. Though running is still impossible, I am making significant strides by walking 2-2.5 miles per day, with my sights firmly set on the 2-mile run.
Because I was sitting in a wheelchair for 3 months with nothing to do but eat, I have a lot of work ahead of me to reach my weight goals. My feet, knees, and legs are bearing the pain of my journey, but every step forward is a testament to my resilience. It's a long, arduous road ahead, but I'm not just committed to progress, I'm committed to triumph.
Even though I've reached my 20-year milestone for retirement, and I could have used my injuries as an excuse to quit, my ultimate goal is to stay in the Air Guard and continue serving with honor. I'm not ready to throw in the towel just yet - I'm in this for the long haul! 💪🏻
I’m very proud to be wearing my uniform again today!
